- Change the Oil Regularly: Replace the engine oil every 20-50 hours of use or as recommended in the manual. Use the correct type of oil for optimal engine performance.
- Inspect the Air Filter: Clean or replace the air filter as needed to prevent dirt and debris from entering the engine, which could cause damage.
- Maintain Fuel System: If using gasoline, drain the fuel tank if the generator will not be used for an extended period, and add fuel stabilizer to prevent fuel degradation. If using propane, ensure the propane tank is securely connected and properly maintained.
- Check and Clean the Spark Plug: Inspect the spark plug for wear or buildup, and clean or replace it to ensure smooth starting and efficient operation.
- Test the Battery: If your generator has an electric start, regularly check and charge the battery to ensure reliable starting.
- Monitor the Cooling System: Keep the cooling vents free from debris, and ensure proper airflow to prevent overheating during use.
- Lubricate Moving Parts: Apply lubricant to the moving components, such as the wheels, handles, and other joints, to ensure smooth operation and prevent rust.
- Inspect the Exhaust: Regularly check the exhaust system for blockages, rust, or cracks, and clean it to ensure proper ventilation.
- Check the Fuel Connections: Ensure all fuel connections are tight and free from leaks to prevent safety hazards.
- Test Run Regularly: Even if not in use, test the generator every 30 days to ensure it’s ready when needed and to keep components functioning properly.
